Job Title: Architectural Designer

Reporting to: CEO /Senior Project Manager

Location: North Adams

Job Summary:

Based in North Adams and reporting to the CEO and Senior Project Manager, the architectural designer is a full-time position that provides direct architectural and design services related to GCAM consultancy and development projects, such as the EMRCA museum. This includes design support for projects during all phases (site analysis, programming, concept design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation), researching international building code research, geometric and design modeling, documentation, architectural visualization, model making, and various types of research analysis and graphics for presentation purposes.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage the design and development of assigned projects

  • Generate proposals, work plans, and schedules

  • Compile data for calculations

  • Produce layouts, technical drawings and other presentation materials as needed

  • Prepare scale drawings or architectural designs using computer-aided design software

  • Prepare construction documents including plans, elevations, sections and details

  • Provide support to senior staff on cultural projects, including museum and cultural district master-planning, with world renowned architectural firms

  • Conduct fabrication research and implementation, including studies on laser-cutting, CNC milling and other fabrication technologies

  • Produce cost estimates for model fabrication

  • Oversee fabrication of physical models

  • Act as liaison with model fabrication partners and other design partners

  • Immediate building projects management

  • Produce volumetric analysis of cultural assets for consultancy work

  • Develop and maintain database of architects and architectural assets

  • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to ensure accuracy of early design work

  • Finalize drafting projects using both 2D and 3D sketching

  • Ensure design specifications align to safety standards and governmental regulations

  • Liaise with various professionals and departments to coordinate project details

 

Knowledge Skills and Experience

  • Masters degree or equivalent and 2-5 years experience in architecture/design/fabrication

  • Proficiency in producing design drawings, using AutoCAD, etc

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, using Rhino, Sketchup, etc

  • Proficiency in preparing files for 3D visualizations, using Rhino, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D

  • Competency in producing graphics using Adobe Suite, etc.

  • Modelmaking and fabrication experience, including 3D printing, CNC milling, and laser cutting, a plus

  • Project management experience in cultural projects preferred
