GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM BILBAO - 1993-1997 (FRANK GEHRY)

Frank Gehry won a competition that included Coop Himmelb(l)au and Arata Isozaki & Associates to create this landmark museum that has been lauded as one of the great buildings of the late 20th century and transformed a dying industrial center into an international cultural destination.  Its distinctive titanium curves and soaring glass atrium include 11,000 square meters of exhibition space in 19 galleries.  This building and its program set a new standard for the integration of art and architecture.
